TECH POWER PLAYERS 50 | RANKED #1

President and Cofounder, Toast

BIOGRAPHY

Why a Tech Power Player? For leading one of the region’s largest public companies and demonstrating a commitment to the hospitality industry amid unprecedented challenges in the sector.

Steve Fredette is president and cofounder of Toast, a software company that offers point-of-sale and management systems for about 79,000 restaurants in Boston and beyond. Fredette leads product and innovation initiatives at Toast, which aims to make food service operations more efficient through comprehensive, cloud-based technology. Fredette built out Toast’s wide range of products — hand-held point-of-sale systems, kitchen display screens, and self-ordering kiosks — which are now used in restaurants from Flour Bakery + Cafe in Beacon Hill to the BANG restaurant and wine bar in Dublin. Fredette, Aman Narang, and Jonathan Grimm founded Toast after working at the Cambridge software company Endeca (later acquired by Oracle), where they helped build the firm’s mobile commerce business. Before starting Toast, Fredette developed popular apps, including Flickr and Shoebuy.com. Fredette earned a bachelor of science in chemistry from MIT.
